Patients on Darwen Ward at Pendleview located at Royal Blackburn Hospital are ‘cueing’ up their next shot thanks to a donation from The East Lancashire Masonic Charity (ELMC).
Thanks to a donation of £700 to Hope and Mind at LSCFT, the charity for Lancashire and South Cumbria NHS Foundation Trust, a pool table was purchased for the mental health ward.
The pool table will help to support recovery for male patients on the ward by helping to improve cognitive functions such as focus as well as support enhanced social interaction and a sense of achievement. Playing pool can also support relaxation and a reduction in stress as it can provide an escape from daily stressors, helping to clear the mind and promote a sense of calm and emotional balance.
ELMC representative, Graham Robinson, recently visited the ward to see their donation in action and hear about the difference it is making to the patient experience.
Graham Robinson commented:
“We were delighted to be able to support the purchase of a pool table to support mental health patients in East Lancashire. I enjoyed being able to hear from them about the games they have and how it is making a difference to them. It is great to see our donations in action.”
